The Safety and Compliance Supervisor is responsible for maintaining compliance with federal, state and local regulations relating to DOT and OSHA standards.  Additionally, he/she will manage GSC Hours of Service records and communications.  The position will also have responsibility for maintaining and improving company SAFER scores as measured by FMCSA databases.

  • Ensure that all state and federal motor vehicle regulatory requirements are met
  • Responsible for managing the maintenance and repairs of all transportation-related equipment
  • Audits various paperwork and postings (i.e. driver logs, manifests, OSHA postings, etc.) for completeness, accuracy and compliance with appropriate local, state and federal laws, statues and company policies
  • Manages required segments of Controller Substance and Alcohol Testing program as required by US DOT
  • Continually communicates serious issues, situations or behaviors with the Warehouse Manager
  • Developing and executing health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
  • Preparing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
  • Review in detail, drivers’ daily records of duty status, associated reports and supporting documents to include but not limited to: Hours of service violations, form and manner violations, timely submissions, falsification, improper logging; speed violations; controlled substance testing, roadside inspections and state collision reports for compliance to federal regulations and company policy.
  • Review motor carrier profile utilizing the DOT portal and/or CSA websites to insure completion of required documentation on roadside inspections of company owned or operated equipment indicating repair or corrective action taken.
  • Review motor carrier profile utilizing the DOT portal and/or CSA websites to ensure the federally mandated vehicular accident register is accurate and current
  • Investigate allegations of regulatory non-compliance and violations of Bunzl policies. Provide findings and recommendations
  • Ensure proper reporting as required under federal regulation or as directed under company policy
  • Gather information on roadside inspections and violations and motor vehicle crashes. Provide detailed reporting to include trend analysis
  • Maintain currency on DOT regulations and changes as they affect company operations
  • Ensure the buildings and grounds are maintained, which entails daily and weekly cleaning schedules as well as determining and scheduling repairs, renovation projects, waste reduction improvements and safety inspections
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Safety or related program highly preferred; Minimum of 3 to 5 years\u0027 related warehouse safety experience in a heavily focused transportation role
  • Must possess working knowledge of the following: DOT regulations, transportation Safety practices, accident investigation and prevention, FMCSA and CSA
  • Proficient in MS Office products
  • High organizational and information management skills
  • Leadership and change management training is a plus
  • Proven leadership results
  • Commercial motor vehicle driving experience a plus
  • Experience building and executing strategic plans
  • Ability to work in teams of an extended enterprise
  • Sustainability experience (fuel usage reduction)
