This position will include overall management and success of multiple product lines.  The Category Manager insures a successful product and works with manufactures to maximize product profitability throughout its life-cycle.  The objective of the Product Category Manager is to plan and specify a product portfolio in line with the long term strategic plan, and within the scope and capabilities of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Work to develop \u0022Best Value\u0022 product opportunities that include best performance, customer acceptance, and continuous improvement for the users
  • Develop and support Bunzl brand names by specifying products to be purchased in United States and imported from Europe and Asia
  • Monitor market needs, competitive products, and the changing requirements of regulatory bodies.  Writing product specifications and documenting required FDA, OSHA, and other regulations
  • Provide sales support and product training material to field sales, and inside sales staff
  • Develop product pricing policies and negotiate best cost vendor programs
  • Coordinate product development with the marketing, Sales, Procurement and other involved departments in order to ensure excellent packaging, smooth transitions and full market acceptance
  • Rationalize and consolidate product lines to improve inventory turns and create volume cost improvement opportunities
  • Support sales with implementation of product lines in any reasonable way, including making customer sales calls with the sales team and attending trade shows when needed
  • Implement sales strategies consistent with manufacturer\u0027s promotions
  • Recommend promotional opportunities taking advantage of advertising co-op payments
  • Support sales staff with special product requirements and prices.  Work to improve go-to-market strategy and speed of new product implementation
  • Function as internal trainer on their respective product lines.  Regularly schedule, conduct and check for understanding with product line training sessions

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent, Bachelor\u0027s degree preferred
  • 5+ years relevant business experience is required; preferable in a distribution environment
  • Must have proven experience negotiating with vendors
  • Good working knowledge of industrial safety requirements in food processing is preferred
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes; applicable category is preferred
  • Must possess strong planning, organizational and time management skills as well as strong analytical problem solving skills
  • Must be able to multi-task with the ability to change direction quickly and often
  • AS400 experience is preferred
  • Must be proficient in Windows (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to travel to both domestically and internationally is required
