Job Description

The Accounting Manager, Imports will be responsible for the management of the accounting team and a set of activities that ensure Bunzl International Services (BIS) compliance with generally accepted accounting principals, corporate policies and external audits.  This will include contact with the BIS overseas office and foreign vendors related to vendor payments, inventory adjustments and documentation corrections.  In this role, the position will work closely with all BIS departments as well as the corporate finance team.

The ideal candidate possesses leadership capabilities, solid operational and technical accounting background and works proactively to drive results. This person is a self-starter, flexible, has a high level of integrity and is action and goal-oriented in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage/assist with the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations and report preparation
  • Track, monitor and report key operational and financial metrics resulting from the various business activities of BIS.
  • Manually track and analyze the financial results and assignment of costs to assist management with making key decisions regarding rebates and profitability of customers, items and categories.
  • Oversee the financial results and cost assignment of various customer programs/business models.
  • Interacts at all levels and with budget owners or other stakeholders to produce timely, efficient and accurate month-end close and reports
  • Responsible for review and/or development of monthly P&L and balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, financial analysis and forecasting/budgeting vs. actual planning on a monthly, semi-annual and yearly basis for US and Canada import business units.
  • Responsible for preparing the departmental annual budget and forecasting data and reviewing the data with the General Manager and corporate finance for approval.
  • Monitor and perform inventory adjustments due to shipping, receiving and/or pricing errors by issuing credits or adjusting inventory layers in coordination with our China office. Also communicate with overseas manufacturers regarding payment and billing issues.
  • Responsible for releasing all ACH auto EFT payments in AS400 system in a timely manner
  • Auditing and signature approval of accounts payable check run registers, check transactions, manual check registers and same day payments according to Bunzl policy.
  • Manage a team of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cost/GL and Pricing with full accountability for hiring, training, mentoring, job severance and performance assessment.
  • Actively review and advise on financial/accounting processes
  • Make recommendations for changes as needed and ensure that company policies and procedures are followed. Establishes the proper techniques to discover and prevent fraud
  • Provide various financial and operation analysis for upper level management and other ad-hoc projects as required.

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, international business or related field required
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience up to and/or including supervision.
  • Strong understanding of accounting policies and bookkeeping procedures and controls.
  • Advanced proficiency within Excel required. AS400 experience desirable.
  • High level of maturity and confidence necessary to interact with sophisticated internal and external clients
  • Strong leadership and customer service skills with the ability to ensure that a high level of service and quality is maintained
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment, work with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality of shared information and/or assignments
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment with significant business volumes.
  • Analytical and forward-thinking skills are required.
