We are currently recruiting for a Manager, Benefits for our Canadian Division in Burlington, Ontario. The Manager, Benefits will be responsible for both strategic and transactional aspects of Canadian Benefits & Wellness, with oversight from North American Corporate Office.  This role will ensure compliance and manage our health and welfare programs including medical, dental, group retirement plans (RRSP/DPSP), insurance, wellness and other benefit programs for Canada.
  • Manage implementation and administration of employee benefit programs such as health insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, employee assistance, retirement, and other plans
  • Partner with Payroll and Corporate office on new acquisitions, including due diligence, benefit GAP analysis, benefit integration and education
  • Manage interim benefit plans for new acquisitions as required, until they transition to the Bunzl plans
  • Design, implement and champion a wellness program that engages employees in wellness challenges, activities and healthier behaviors
  • In partnership with Bunzl Canada’s benefits consultant:
    • Analyze and evaluate services, coverage, and options available through insurance and investment companies to recommend programs best meeting needs of the organization
    • Audit benefit plans for compliance with government regulations
    • Maintain knowledge of and analyzes government regulations, benefit program trends, and prevailing practices among similar organizations
    • Analyze benefits experience for cost-control and risk-assessment factors
    • Coordinate and lead quarterly/semi-annual benefit program reviews and retirement committee meetings
  • Conduct new hire orientation and on-going education sessions on benefit and group retirement programs.
  • Develop, recommend, and monitor budget allocations for employee benefits
  • Manage the administration of outsourced programs and vendor relationships
  • Work with payroll team and HR Coordinator Canada to ensure that employee enrollment, changes and terminations are accurate
  • Reconcile billing to reflect correct participation and ensure that intercompany accounting allocations are accurately processed
  • Provide prompt and accurate answers to employees for any benefit questions
  • Oversee and administer policies, procedures, plan documentation and corresponding plan implementation and/or changes
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to and strong internal controls are in place
  • Provide the required information and support to meet the needs of external and internal audits and various tax reporting requirements
  • Assists in HRIS systems implementation and upgrades by ensuring limited impact to file feeds and any electronic data interchange
  • Prepare functional reports as needed

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or Human Resources related field with professional benefits training preferred
  • 5 or more years of progressive Canadian benefits administration experience
  • Bi-lingual highly preferred
  • Strong project management skills
  • CEBS/CBS designation an asset
  • Self-starter with minimal direction/supervision, results oriented, strategic thinker
  • Strong business acumen, to provide credible, professional and value-added services to management and employees
  • Proven leadership through benefit analysis and integration for mergers and acquisitions
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment / multi-tasking / working through ambiguity
  • Demonstrated successful experience in working in a demanding, high performance work environment and team oriented culture
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills; detail oriented and deadline driven
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Results oriented with ability to take initiative to analyze situations and problems to find viable, timely solutions
  • Advanced Excel and HR systems, preferably Ultimate Software
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver effective presentations
